About Us
Hi! My name is Beth and I'm the maker behind Umbrella Custom Woodworking! A teacher by training, I taught myself woodworking in 2021, and quickly fell in love with the art form. I am passionate about creating unique, long lasting pieces that my clients can treasure for years to come. My husband and I are raising our two boys in Saint Paul, Minnesota. When we're not in the workshop, you can likely find us at a baseball field. Be sure to follow me on social media for a behind-the-scenes look at my woodworking business. Why "Umbrella?
I was inspired to begin woodworking by memories of my grandfather, Jack McCollough, who was a life-long carpenter. He passed away of leukemia when I was in college, but I tried to keep his memory alive by telling my kids all about him. When they were too young to pronounce his name, they began to refer to him as "Grandpa Umbrella" and they've never called him anything else. When it was time to create a name for my business, I knew I had to include a little piece of him. It keeps me motivated on the tough days and reminds me that this craft is in my blood.
